Return of the Light is a magical Winter Solstice set that celebrates the deepest dark and the soon to be returning light… What happens in the ritual is an impressive sight that has been depicted in numerous paintings over the centuries.

“Since AD 900 on the 21st of December eight Guardians would travel half a day to gather at the Taika Circle at the Harter Fell in the far eastern part of the English Lake District. They were there to create a magical ritual that would end the dark days and bring the light back to their villages.

Each Guardian would raise their sword and strike a stone in the circle to activate it. The mighty swords were heavily protected by the Guardians and handed down from generation to generation. As the shiny metal blade touched the cold stone, a beautifully eerie sound echoed around the circle.

Once the Guardians had activated the swords, seven of them took their places around the outside of the Taika Circle, while the eighth one took the Book of Taika to read the spell:

“Heed the voice of the Guardians' might
Clear the shadows with their power
Lost is our warmth and light
End the darkness at this hour.

Be an end to winter's night
bring back our precious light.”

As the  words were read out loud, an electric ray of light began to connect the stones, gaining momentum until projecting the light into the Mirror of Darkness. The blackness of the mirror consumed the light completely before releasing it once more into the body of the Guardian.

The Guardian spread out his arms and opened his mouth wide to pour forth the light into the night sky. The  whole sky filled with light, which poured like molten rain back to earth.

The guardians collected the precious rain of light into their Light Orbs and carried it back to their villages, where the celebrations started and lasted for twelve days."
